"I actually go for walks now just to check my phone. Then I forget I wanted to check it."
Walk

The step-based app blocker that locks TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit until you hit your daily step goal. No Screen Time loopholes. No override button. Walk your steps, earn your apps.

One rule.
Walk first.
No willpower required. No timers to beat. Just one rule: walk first. App timers fail because they create no friction — you just tap "15 more minutes." Walkgate creates a physical cost.
Built to break the habit.
Step-gated app blocking.
Set a daily step target. Pick which apps to block — TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, games, whatever drains you. They stay locked until your steps are in. No timers to tap through. No override button. Just walk.
Enforced by Apple's native Screen Time framework. No backdoors.
Bank extra steps.
Walk past your goal and bank the difference. Every 100 steps over goal earns 1 minute of screen time. Bank up to 100 minutes — spend it on a day you need early access.
Currency Mode: 100 steps = 1 minute banked. Full Unlock Mode also available.
All at once, or earn as you go.
Full Unlock: hit your goal once and all blocked apps open for the rest of the day. Earn Minutes: every step converts to screen time you can spend however you want.
Switch modes anytime in Settings.
Build streaks. Earn badges.
Your streak counts consecutive days you hit your goal. Reach milestones — First Steps, 10K Day, Warrior, Legend. See your lifetime stats: total steps, days goal met, minutes earned.
Streak resets at midnight if you miss. No shortcuts.
Hit your goal.
Earn the streak.
Every day you hit your step goal, your streak grows. Reach 7 days and you're a Warrior. Reach 100 and you're a Legend. The app tracks it all — no journaling required.
App timers fail.
Willpower fails.
Physical
friction works.
Doomscrolling and phone addiction aren't character flaws — they're the intended outcome. Every infinite feed is engineered to override rational thought.
Most digital detox apps give you screen time limits you can tap through in seconds. Walkgate creates a physical cost instead. You can't scroll your way to unlocking it. You have to move.
"Users report fewer mindless pickups, more intentional phone use, and — unexpectedly — they actually enjoy the walks."
Zero physical cost. You tap "15 more minutes." Repeatedly. Your brain overrides the tap in under a second.
Works for 3 days. Apps are engineered by billion-dollar teams specifically to defeat it.
You can't scroll your way to unlocking it. You have to move. That physical cost changes behavior in a way screen-based friction cannot.
"Two weeks in and I've hit 10,000 steps every single day. Never done that before in my life."
"It's the only app that made screen time feel like MY choice."
Questions.
Common questions about how Walkgate's step-based app blocking works.
How does Walkgate block apps?
Walkgate uses Apple's Screen Time framework to block your chosen apps at the system level — the same technology that powers parental controls. Your steps are read from Apple Health. When you hit your daily step goal, Walkgate removes the blocks automatically. If you miss your goal, the apps stay locked until midnight.
How is Walkgate different from Apple Screen Time?
Apple Screen Time lets you set time limits, but you can bypass them with a single tap ('Ignore Limit'). Walkgate removes that loophole entirely. The only way to unlock your apps is to walk your step goal. There is no override button, no skip option, no workaround.
What apps can I block with Walkgate?
Any app on your iPhone — TikTok, Instagram, Twitter/X, Reddit, YouTube, games, browsers, or anything else. You choose exactly which apps to block and set your own step target.
Does it work without an Apple Watch?
Yes. Walkgate reads steps from Apple Health, which automatically collects them from your iPhone's built-in pedometer, Apple Watch, or any third-party step tracker you've connected. No Apple Watch required.
What happens if I don't hit my step goal?
Your blocked apps stay locked until midnight when the day resets. There is no way around this — no skip button, no grace period. If you've banked extra minutes from walking past your goal on previous days, you can spend those to get early access.
Is my health data private?
Yes. Walkgate reads your step count from Apple Health but never stores, transmits, or sells it. All data stays on your device. No account is required.
